The theme of today's meeting was to think locally for the holidays. Dianne Langeland, who along with her husband publish Edible Cape Cod, explained how it came into existence and its purpose in promoting local business. In fact, it is funded through the advertisements of these businesses. She also spoke about "Edible Communities" becoming a nationwide enterprise and had copies not only of her local magazine but of many others scattered throughout the United States. We were invited to take home copies. We then heard from each or these four local merchants who had graciously

Last year the Club fulfilled 100% of the children's wishes and Robin urged Members to do it again this year. Today's Speaker Other operations run by the Family Pantry include a Recycle Center, Thrift Shop (although the majority of clothes and all children's clothes are kept at the Food Pantry itself for their clients), and supermarket gift cards which can be purchased at the warehouse. Brendan not only graduated from Chatham High School, but he was on its first team to participate in the "We the People" competition. He credits this experience with developing his interest in the Constitution and government. Speaking about his experiences as a member of the State Department, Brendan asserted that, while the Secretary of State may reflect a particular President's point of view, the State Department maintains a set of general purposes which keeps it fluid and stable. Its goal is to craft a foreign policy which takes into account the needs and dynamics of local communities. Brendan concluded his presentation by thanking the audience for affording him this opportunity to offer us insight into the workings of the State Department. Joanna and Margaret thanked Brendan for his time and presentation and recognized his parents, both of whom were present, for having such an accomplished son. Susan D. Pitt
